Grade 10/11/12

The following potential topics are taken directly from the new Active Living curriculum for BC.  Look through the options for topics in your grade level.  Discuss things that confuse or interest you with Ms. Hobbs, Mr. Benty and/or Mr. Badenoch These topics are VERY broad.  You will have to do some thinking to identify a more narrow topic.

Grade 10

 

  • ways to monitor and adjust physical exertion levels

  • training Principles : FITT principle, SAID principle and specificity

  • effects of different types of physical activity on the body

  • marketing and advertising tactics aimed at children (food, supplements etc.)

  • bones of the skeletal system

  • different types of muscle, including cardiac and skeletal muscle

  • different types and functions of connective tissue

  • anatomical terminology, including terms of reference, planes of motion, and joint movements

  • ways to monitor and adjust physical exertion levels

  • principles of program design

  • training principles to enhance personal fitness levels: FITT principle, SAID principle and specificity

  • effects of different types of physical activity on the body

  • roles of different types of nutrients

  • sources of health information; including professionally produced health pamphlets, health and fitness magazines, and advertisements

Fitness and Conditioning 11/12

  • Identify and explain the relationships between healthy eating, overall health, and performance in fitness activities

  • Analyze a variety of fitness myths and fads

  • Identify and describe the influences of different training styles on fitness and how to train for results.

  • Ways to train and enhance the muscular and cardiovascular systems

  • Different types and functions of connective tissue and how to train for different muscle fiber types

  • Exercise safety and etiquette in different settings under normal and pandemic conditions (training facilities, open parks and green gyms, etc.)

  • Principles of program design, including training principles to enhance personal fitness levels, such as the FITT principle, SAID principle, and specificity

  • Influences of food choices and eating patterns on physical performance

  • Performance-enhancing supplements and drugs

  • Create and implement a personalized fitness program

  • Demonstrate a variety of in different types of fitness activities

  • Explain appropriate behaviors and leadership skills  in different types of fitness activities and environments
