Welcome to the Physical and Health Education Inquiry Project website.

What you need to know:

You will choose a topic related to PHE that interests you. You will research it.  You will present your learning to teachers and peers in any format that works for you.

The steps you should take:
  1. Choose 3 topics for potential research from the lists under the Grade 8/9 or Grade 10/11/12 tabs.

  2. Discuss these topics with Ms. Hobbs, Mr. Benty and/or Mr. Badenoch.

  3. Have a look  at “What makes a good inquiry question?” under the Research tab. Out of your chosen topics from #1, which most interest you?  Make up several inquiry questions for that/those topics.

  4. Share your inquiry questions with Ms. Hobbs, Mr. Benty and/or Mr. Badenoch.  Alter your questions if needed.

  5. With your teacher(s) decide which question is most worthy of further research.  Complete Reflection #1.  Send to your teacher(s).

  6. Read the feedback from your teacher on Reflection #1 and/or discuss with your teacher.

  7.  Make up 5 to 10 questions about your topic.  Steer clear of simple and yes/no questions. These should be higher order thinking questions.

  8. Search for the answers. Check with your school librarian for help with your research. Work on finding relevant and reliable information that helps with your research.  Consult the Evaluating Information Sources handout under the Research tab.

  9. Fill out the PHE Notetaking Template (found under the Research tab) for sources that are reliable and useful to you.  You should be using AT LEAST 3 separate reliable sources.

  10. Fill out the PHE Citation Template (found under the Research tab) for sources that are reliable and useful to you.

  11. Complete Reflection #2. Send to your teacher(s).

  12. After finding, evaluating and processing your research, create a finished product.  This finished product can take any form, but it should clearly demonstrate your learning.

  13. Be prepared to share your Notetaking and Citation templates with your teachers as part of the evaluation process.

  14. Present your learning to an audience!
