What makes a good inquiry question?

There are a number of factors to consider when building a good inquiry question.

Your question should:

  • matter to you

  • have more than one answer (ie. should not be answered by a simple "yes" or "no")

  • make people think and wonder

  • take time to find the answer

  • provoke more questions

  • have a clear focus

Here are some examples of good inquiry questions that are NOT PHE inquiry questions:

"What influences the percentage of our brain that we use?"

Why does society give celebrities so much attention and power?

What will it take for Canada to truly recover from historical injustices involving Indigenous people?

Why are so many protagonists in Young Adult fiction unrealistic?

Once you have decided upon your topic, create a GOOD inquiry question.  Before proceeding with research, share your inquiry question with your teacher

to ensure that you are on the right track.  In addition, you must complete and submit Reflection #1 (found under the Reflection tab).
